Whether you follow them on Instagram or in their stylish red carpet appearances, Halle Berry and Van Hunt are probably one of the most low-key power couples in Hollywood. And, most recently, it seems they’re being discreet about their latest major relationship milestone.
In an interview with Today.com, Hunt revealed that he’s proposed to Berry after five years together.
“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see,” the musician told the outlet. “It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”
But while Berry hasn’t given a resounding “yes” to his question, she’s never been so confident in a relationship before.
“Well, I’ve been married three times,” she said. Berry was married to David Justice from 1993 to 1997, singer Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005 and French actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016. She has a son, 11-year-old Maceo-Robert Martinez, with her third husband.
“Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way,” Berry explained. “We don’t.”
“But I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” Berry gushed. “And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”

Hunt and Berry met in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic after being set up by Hunt’s brother, who works at Berry’s menopause company, Respin.
“I said something like, ‘Well, I don’t like to be set up.’ And he said, ‘And how has that worked out for you?'” Berry remembered the conversation with their soon-to-be matchmaker.
Hunt also didn’t respond too positively to the suggestion. “Who asks you if you want to date Halle Berry?” he joked. “It doesn’t even feel like a real question.”
Looking back, Berry and Hunt are thankful for their slower beginnings.
“Before we got together in any physical kind of way, I had fallen madly in love just through talking,” Berry said. “And telling and sharing every single thing. All of our good or bad, our dirty, because we were completely honest.”
“It was like a battle royale,” Hunt joked. “We were trying to outdo each other with negative statements.”
No matter how they started, it certainly worked out!
