Princess Diana's Letter Two Days After Her Wedding Reveals Early Issues in Marriage To King Charles

A letter Princess Diana sent two days after marrying King Charles III in 1981 speaks volumes about the early stages of their marriage.

The letter is one of 300 pieces available for auction by Julien’s Auctions. The extraordinary collection, Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection, is one of the largest auctions of items that once belonged to the late Princess of Wales in history.

Dated July 31, 1981, the letter is from Diana to Mark Simpson, a footman at Buckingham Palace, whom she appears to be thanking for helping her early transition into life in the Royal Family.

The letter reads, “Dear Mark, I just wanted to thank you for all your kindness + patience you’ve showed towards me since I moved into B.P. My stay was made so much easier by your company as it was so terribly lonely + we had so many laughs for that I can’t thank you enough. Do hope you were able to enjoy Wednesday + that you liked my dress? I’m off to Britainia tomorrow, what with all those men around. I will have to keep a watchful eye on Evelyn! The bad news is that I haven’t eaten any cereal — sob. How am I going to cope without my bowls of cereal….[smiley face]. A large thank you for being you — Much love, Diana.”

Just days after marrying the then-prince in a lavish London ceremony that was watched by upwards of 700 million people around the world, Diana makes no mention of her new husband and instead discusses feeling “terribly lonely” in her new home.

“It’s like a couple of days after she got married. She’d been living in Buckingham Palace as she was transitioning from being a normal person to being a royal and the future queen,” Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien’s Auction, told People about the letter.

“So she had to learn from the Queen Mother and the Queen about curtsying and all that. But she had fun with Mark Simpson, the footman. And he was about the same age, a little bit older than her,” Nolan adds. “And she talks here, it speaks of how she was lonely when she was in the palace.”

The letter shows early signs of distance between Diana, who turned 20 weeks before her wedding, and her 32-year-old husband Charles.

The couple would go on to welcome sons William and Harry in 1982 and 1984, respectively, before separating in 1992.

A Video of President Emmanuel Macron’s Wife Shoving Him Resurfaces Dark Details About Their Marriage

French President Emmanuel Macron was quick to shut down any speculation about a viral video that appeared to show his wife, Brigitte Macron, shoving his face, but that hasn’t stopped social media users from pointing out controversial details about their relationship.

On May 26, cameras caught the French president taking a shove to the face right as the door of a plane carrying the couple opened at the beginning of an official trip to Hanoi, Vietnam. Macron, after being briefly stunned, quickly turned to the cameras to wave while the arm responsible for the shove was soon revealed to be that of his wife.

“I was bickering, or rather joking, with my wife,” Macron later told reporters, via The New York Times. “It’s nothing. I’m surprised by it, it turns into some kind of global catastrophe where people are even coming up with theories to explain it… It’s nonsense.”

The theories Macron references may or may not include social media users, and even Time, connecting the incident back to the problematic beginnings of the couple’s relationship.

Macron met Brigitte Trogneux, who is 24 years his senior, as a 15-year-old student at the private school where she worked as a teacher. Brigitte, then a married mother of three, including a daughter who was a classmate of her future husband, oversaw a theatre workshop at the school and reportedly grew close to Macron while working on a play together.

In the 2017 biography, Emmanuel Macron: A Perfect Young Man, the President’s parents recalled removing their son from the school once they learned about the relationship. “When Emmanuel met Brigitte, we certainly did not say, ‘How wonderful!'” Macron’s father said.

Though the age of consent in France is 15, Macron’s horrified parents still tried to urge Brigitte not to see their son until he was an adult but she allegedly told them she couldn’t “promise anything.”

The pair eventually married in 2007 when he was 29 and she was 54 years old. They do not share any children.

The 2025 Met Gala theme is putting menswear on center stage. This year’s theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which aims to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibit by the same name.

The annual fundraising event, and known as “Fashion’s Biggest Night,” is linked to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City and celebrates the unveiling of a new fashion exhibit every year.

Every year, the Met Gala has a gorgeous theme and a dress code for the guests to follow, inspiring some iconic Met Gala looks. Some themes through the years honor time frames and designers, while others honor rather niche subjects such as punk fashion and more.

What Is the 2025 Met Gala Theme?

The theme of the 2025 Met Gala is based on the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Met Gala attendees will be following the dress code, “Tailored for You.”

The exhibit, which is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, will celebrate Black menswear style through the years and demonstrate different characteristics of “dandy” style.

Per Vogue, the dress code, Tailored for You, “can be interpreted in a myriad of ways, but it mostly means embracing looks reflective of one’s personal style.”

“We can surely expect inspired takes on suiting—from versions of the zoot silhouette popularized by jazz musicians in the 1940s to the bold, colorful styles worn by Congolese sapeurs—though other menswear staples, such as hats, ties, canes, brooches, and pocket squares, are likely to have a strong showing too.”

Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams will serve as this year’s co-chairs, while LeBron James will join as honorary chair.

Ivanka Trump Is Reportedly Lining up for This Controversial Billionaire Experience

If you haven’t heard enough about Blue Origin’s April 14 space flight, there’s already speculation about who will board Jeff Bezos’ next mission.

That was likely the point of having well-known names on the New Shepard rocket this week. Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, and Katy Perry have all heard the criticism about their controversial flight — they are not astronauts no matter how hard they try to convince us. Still, other celebrity names are reportedly lining up to experience 11 minutes in space.

Ivanka Trump is considered “one of the more likely candidates” to be on the next ride, according to The U.S. Sun. The media outlet cites her close ties to Bezos and Sánchez, and she’s already received a coveted invite to their wedding in June in Venice, Italy. Besides her friendship with the power couple, Trump has also had an interest in space going back to her childhood.

“I think I can speak for all of us here to say you inspire us all. You actually have my dream job,” she told the International Space Station Expedition 56 crew via a video call from NASA’s Mission Control Center in 2018, per Space.com. “I always wanted to be an astronaut, and I always wanted to go to space. You are fulfilling my dream up there.”

It probably wouldn’t take too much convincing to get her to sign up, and she can certainly afford the ticket (the deposit alone costs $150,000). Bezos would probably also be pleased with the headlines a Trump family member would generate.

That would be music to Bezos’ ears because he admitted at the 2024 The New York Times’ DealBook Summit in December that his space company was “not a very good business yet.” Still, he’s confident is going to be bigger than his other great success, Amazon.

“I think it’s going to be the best business that I’ve ever been involved in, but it’s going to take a while,” Bezos said.

Blue Origin’s next space flight hasn’t been announced yet, but The U.S. Sun seems to think that other A-list names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian could potentially be crew mates with Trump in the near future.

Michelle Obama has opened up about the struggles her marriage to Barack Obama faced during their White House years before, but her older brother, Craig Robinson, is the one spilling the real tea.

He’s known Barack Obama years before he became President of the United States — and he didn’t think the future politician stood a chance with his younger sister.

“Mich starts to date Barack, and we don’t know who this guy is. We’re just like, ‘Barack? Who’s got a name like Barack?’ “ Robinson joked on their sibling IMO podcast on April 16. “And I’m thinking to myself, it’s gonna last like about a month like most of your relationships did.”

The former first lady didn’t agree with Robinson’s opinion on her dating life. “That’s not true. I had many a long-term boyfriend,” she added. But her sibling wasn’t done with reminiscing about Michelle’s early love life.

“I remember mom’s first thing was, ‘Ooo at least he’s tall.’ Because Mich was usually posting up her other boyfriends,” Robinson continued. “And I said to myself, ‘Well, it’s too bad it’s not gonna last.’ “

It took a pickup game of basketball for Robinson to give his sister’s boyfriend the official stamp of approval. “Obviously we had a great time playing. This is what I learned, aside from the fact that he’s left-handed so he couldn’t go right at all, most importantly, he was a team player,” he shared. “He fit in with the people. So, I was able to report back to you, everything was fine, and the rest was history.”

The dynamic duo met in 1988 after his first year at Harvard Law School when he took a “summer job at Sidley & Austin, a law firm in Chicago.” The 44th president had quite a vivid recollection of their summer of romance together.

“Michelle worked at Sidley, too, and, in the luckiest break of my life, was assigned to be my adviser, charged with helping me learn the ropes,” he said in a first-person essay for Oprah.com. “I remember being struck by how tall and beautiful she was. She, I have since learned, was pleasantly surprised to see that my nose and ears weren’t quite as enormous as they looked in the photo I’d submitted for the firm directory.”

Michelle wasn’t that interested in dating him at first though because she was his supervisor. Barack Obama offered to quit his job, and that’s when she finally agreed to a date.

“On our first date, I treated her to the finest ice cream Baskin-Robbins had to offer, our dinner table doubling as the curb,” he recalled. “I kissed her, and it tasted like chocolate.”

Barack Obama is admitting his presidential ambitions took a toll on his marriage. The family spent eight years in the White House, so the former president knows he has to make up that time to his wife — and he’s letting everyone.

The former first lady hasn’t kept her thoughts on the topic a secret either. She’s been open about their marital issues for years and how putting his career first impacted their family. Who could forget her 2022 quote from her Revolt TV appearance: “People think I’m being catty by saying this – it’s like, there were 10 years where I couldn’t stand my husband.”

Once she left the White House, she was able to relax and recall how hard Barack Obama’s political run had been on the family.

“A presidential run, I feared, would really bang us up,” she wrote in her memoir, Becoming. “But I’d seen enough of the divisions to temper my own hopes. Barack was a Black man in America, after all. I didn’t really think he could win.” When he did win, their lives, including daughters Malia and Sasha, changed forever.

Barack Obama recognized the sacrifices his wife made so he could pursue his dream.

“During the time we were there, Michelle felt this underlying tension. The pressure, stress, of needing to get everything right, to be ‘on’ at every moment,” he told People in November 2020. “There were times where I think she was frustrated or sad or angry but knew that I had Afghanistan or the financial crisis to worry about, so she would tamp it down.”

Now, the 44th president is doing his best to make it up to her in their post-White House years.

“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” Barack Obama said at a Hamilton College chat on April 3, via The Daily Beast. “So, I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things.”

The former president’s admission comes on the heels of the divorce rumors that have been plaguing the couple for months after Michelle skipped the late President Jimmy Carter’s funeral on Jan. 7 and Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration. It appears that she wasn’t interested in interacting with the Trump family though — it had nothing to do with her marriage. And no, Barack Obama is not having a fling with Jennifer Aniston which was easily one of the weirdest rumors to come out of that story.

The former president knows what he needs to do now that he’s out of Washington, D.C. and it’s about putting Michelle first. It’s her time to shine!

Vanessa Trump Hasn’t Shied Away From Dating High-Profile Men Despite Her Private Nature

Vanessa Trump has kept a relatively low profile since divorcing Donald Trump Jr. in 2018. She was quietly supporting her former father-in-law Donald Trump and raising the five children she shares with her ex — Kai, 17, Donald III, 16, Tristan, 13, Spencer, 12, and Chloe, 10 — in the background.

Followers of the Trump family might consider her a very private person, but her dating history proves that she doesn’t shy away from high-profile men. By now, the world knows about her confirmed romance with Tiger Woods after he posted an Instagram official snapshot. “Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together,” the legendary golfer wrote in the caption. “At this time, we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.”

Woods and Donald Jr. aren’t the first bold-faced names she’s reportedly dated either. She may keep quiet about her private life, but the mom of five is attracted to the spotlight. The 47-year-old former model’s first boyfriend, Valentin Rivera, was a part of the Latin Kings gang. According to the Daily Mail, they dated for five years while they were in school together in New York City.

Even when Rivera served 16 months in prison for assault, Vanessa reportedly stood by his side. Page Six obtained her handwritten letter to her then-boyfriend from Dec. 13, 1993. She wrote, “I miss you a lot, especially since it’s my birthday coming up. And I wish you were here to celebrate with me. But you’ll be out [of prison] for my 18th birthday.” The couple dated until she was 20 when she allegedly had a fling with Leonardo DiCaprio.

In 1998, Vanessa was spotted by Star Magazine, via New York Magazine, “nuzzling” DiCaprio at the premiere party for Two Girls and a Guy. “Leonardo DiCaprio has fallen hard for a stunning young model — and pals say this time it’s love. The superstar is so smitten with blonde beauty Vanessa Haydon (her maiden name) that he’s now a one-woman man,” the source said. DiCaprio’s publicist Cindy Guagenti refuted the rumor, and a former classmate told the NY outlet, “Vanessa played the media really well.” He claimed that she went from “a total gangster bitch” to “all dolled up and ladylike.” A Manhattan socialite was born!

From there, Vanessa moved on to Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud for a three-year romance that lasted until just after Sept. 11, 2001, when he was forced to leave the U.S. By 2003, her destiny was set when the future president introduced her to Donald Jr. “I’m at this fashion show,” Vanessa told The New York Times in a 2006 interview. “Donald Trump comes up to me with his son: ‘Hi, I’m Donald Trump. I wanted to introduce you to my son Donald Trump Jr.”

That fateful meeting led her down the aisle in 2005 and eventually brought her to Woods. Vanessa might be a quiet public figure, but she doesn’t mind dating a man in the spotlight.

Jackie Kennedy's White House Rose Garden Might Be Getting Another Trump Makeover

Jacqueline Kennedy’s iconic rose garden at the White House might be getting a serious makeover during Donald Trump’s second administration. Yes, the rose garden did receive a controversial renovation by Melania Trump in 2020, but it looks like it’s going to happen again.

The president apparently has an issue with the grass in the middle of the White House Rose Garden. He wants to add a patio just like he has at his “Winter White House” at Mar-a-Lago. Donald Trump was asked by Fox News on March 19 if the pavement rumor was true and he confirmed it during the broadcast.

“What was happening is that that’s supposed to have events. Every event you have is soaking wet. It’s soaking wet,” he explained. “The women with the high heels. It’s just too much. The grass, it just doesn’t work. We use it for press conferences, and it just doesn’t work because people fall into the wet.” To be clear, the roses will remain, but the grass in the center of the courtyard will be paved over.

The rumor first began in February when The New York Times leaked Donald Trump’s White House reconstruction plans. There have been ongoing discussions as to whether to make it “limestone or an easily interchangeable hard surface, with the possibility of installing hardwood floors for dancing,” per the outlet’s sources. While the president might be thinking of this renovation from a practical standpoint, White House traditionalists aren’t exactly pleased with this idea.

“This is beyond disrespectful 😡 but I suppose we shouldn’t expect anything less,” said one X user. Another added, “Sounds like a waste of money. Where is @DOGE to stop this fraud and abuse?!” One social media user wrote, “I can’t help but hear Joni Mitchell singing Paved Paradise.”

The New York Times indicated that Donald Trump is looking for a space to entertain guests, similar to his “member-only club and home in Palm Beach, Fla.” The first lady has not chimed in about her husband’s plans, but she received significant criticism for her treatment of the rose garden five years ago.

NBC News presidential historian Michael Beschloss shared his thoughts on her renovation, posting on X in 2021, “Evisceration of White House Rose Garden was completed a year ago this month, and here was the grim result—decades of American history made to disappear.” Melania’s office fired back after his critical words hit the internet.

“@BeschlossDC has proven his ignorance by showing a picture of the Rose Garden in its infancy,” the Office of Melania Trump wrote on her X account. “The Rose Garden is graced with a healthy & colorful blossoming of roses. His misleading information is dishonorable & he should never be trusted as a professional historian.”

Melania had 10 crab apple trees removed and planted elsewhere on the White House grounds. People were hoping Dr. Jill Biden would restore Jackie’s vision, but she did not touch it in the four years she was there. Jill often shared images of the rose bushes in bloom without making any note of Melania’s changes.

Still, Donald Trump’s patio is going to be hard to ignore and it will be the end of an era for Jackie’s rose garden as fans knew and loved it.

Bettina Anderson Shines Among A-List Elite Amid Romance With Donald Trump Jr.

The New York City socialite scene has a rising star on its hands and Bettina Anderson is up for the challenge. If that name doesn’t sound familiar to you, she’s better known as Donald Trump Jr.’s girlfriend. His ex-fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle might have played the political game better, but Anderson is reportedly nailing her social duties.

Anderson knew ahead of dating Donald Trump’s eldest son that the scrutiny would be difficult because of the divisive nature of politics. Still, she rose to the challenge. “She knows who she is, and is proud of her looks which she flaunts,” a Miami insider told People in January. “But she understands that she needs to look and act responsible and never overshadow the rest of the family.”

The start of Donald Jr. and Anderson’s relationship appears to have overlapped with his engagement to Guilfoyle, who had been a big part of Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. It was one of the reasons the president was reportedly hesitant about his son’s new romance. Anderson allegedly had a “reputation for hard partying and a pattern of dating wealthy men in the affluent Florida enclave,” per Mediaite, but those concerns seem to have dissipated since he took office.

On March 13, Anderson was front and center at the Art Production Fund Gala in Manhattan. Per the Daily Mail, the 38-year-old socialite found herself spending time with Nicky Hilton and engaging in conversation with Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia. The fashion designer dressed Anderson in a stunning yellow gown with a high slit to show off her long, toned legs. She shared snapshots from the glamorous night and captioned the post, “Last night’s magic at the Art Production Fund Gala with my best girls in NYC. #bestgirlenergy.”

It’s unclear if Anderson will be a part of Donald Trump’s administration, but ahead of his inauguration, it was rumored that she desired a philanthropic role. According to the New York Post, she was hoping to serve on one of Donald Trump’s “community outreach boards or advisory committees” with a spot on the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities as the ultimate goal. She wanted to be an asset in bringing together “the more sophisticated and liberal Hamptons and Palm Beach types of people” to Donald Trump’s term.

With Anderson’s profile beginning to rise, she might get her way. The Manhattan social scene has welcomed her with open arms, maybe Donald Trump is next.

Brooke Shields Warned Us About What Millie Bobby Brown Is Experiencing

When Millie Bobby Brown first stepped out on the press tour for her new Netflix film, The Electric State, it was immediately clear that the actress was undergoing a transformation. With freshly bleached hair and outfits that channeled blonde bombshells from Pamela Anderson to Barbie herself, Brown was entering a new fashion era.

Like Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears and the other child stars turned pop culture icons that came before, Brown is shedding the image that we’ve seen since she first burst on to our screens in 2016 as Eleven in Stranger Things. At 21 years old, she’s becoming her own person and we should be embracing that. Instead, just also like the stars that came before her, Brown has experienced the wrath of a media obsessed with putting women in boxes and demonizing any changes.

“I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me,” Brown opened up in a March 4 video shared on her Instagram after numerous articles were written about her changing appearance. “Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things Season 1. And because I don’t, I’m now a target.”

Brown goes on to name and shame specific writers, many who are women, who dissected her looks online.

“I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman,” she added. “I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself.”

Her message is one the world needed to be reminded of. But it’s not one we’ve never heard before. Earlier this year, another former child star, Brooke Shields, published her latest book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old. The apt title was inspired by a conversation she had with a man who was disgusted to learn her real age.

“We imprint on people at certain ages,” Shields said at a January 13 talk hosted by our sister brand, Flow Space. “When grow older, we’re not ready for it because our personal relationship with that person is no longer the same and therefore we’ve aged as well… I had the gall to actually get older.”

The book unpacks much of what Brown is experiencing — except through the lens of a woman who has been victimized in this way for decades, ever since she was the age Brown is now.

“No one knows what to do with me,” Shields writes in the introduction of the memoir. “After all, Brooke Shields is not allowed to get old. The sixteen-year-old Calvin Klein model? Time magazine’s face of the ’80s? It’s sacrilegious!”

Shields, who has certainly been picked apart in all the ways Brown is and then some, has been trying to course correct for decades, reminding us that getting older is a privilege and eternal youth is not something you owe to the world.

“For me, as my body and face change in all the ways they should,” she wrote. “There is this sense of How dare you? That was never the plan, young lady! And, to be totally honest, there have been times when it’s made me feel like a disappointment.”

What Shields points to throughout the book is that women can never do right under a patriarchal society’s glare. Damned if you age, damned if you don’t.

“I look back sometimes and feel like I’ve done something wrong because I no longer have the body or the face that I used to have,” she wrote. “And yet, if I did anything drastic to hold on to my looks from my youth or to stop aging, I’d be judged or chastised for that, too.”

This is the reality Brown is facing.
