Princess Charlotte is officially double digits, folks! The young Princess of Wales just turned 10 years old, and it’s a major milestone. A major milestone that the royal family could not let go unnoticed, and so they released a new portrait of the third in line to the throne.
The stunning photo shared by proud parents Kate Middleton and Prince William is not at all what we expected. We were confident Princess Charlotte would be showing off her Swiftie pride with her beloved friendship bracelets or wearing one of the preppy, colorful looks she usually rocks alongside her mom.

But no, the 10-year-old princess smashed every princess stereotype when she posed in a dark camo jacket with a backpack strapped across her chest. Her long blonde hair was pulled back in a simple ponytail, and she sat in what looked like a beautiful valley, smiling widely at the camera (and her mom behind it!).
“Happy 10th Birthday Princess Charlotte! ❤,” Middleton and Prince William — who also share sons Prince George, 11 and Prince Louis, 7 — wrote on Instagram.
Followers were obsessed with this new ultra-outdoorsy style. “Happy Birthday! Love the action girl vibe, girls are tough cookies!!” one follower wrote.
And we have to agree! She looks like she should not be messed with, but also, most importantly, so incredibly happy.
We have to wonder what this unexpected look will mean for Princess Charlotte’s ranking among stylish celebrity kids. Earlier this year, she was dethroned as the most stylish celebrity kid. (Or, at least, the celebrity kid whose style people were most interested in.)

It was time for her to pass her “crown” to an American princess: North West.
But we have to imagine that fashion-related queries for Princess Charlotte will skyrocket today, as she smashes princess stereotypes and shows off this down-to-earth (literally) side of her. Regardless of where she ranks on the list of Most Stylish Celebrity Kids, we want to wish the young Princess of Wales a very Happy 10th Birthday. We can’t wait to see what this year has in store for her … and her closet!
