Before June even starts, Jenna Bush Hager has already shared her latest book club pick with her followers. On Instagram, the Today Show co-host shared that her June selection is A Family Matter by Claire Lynch.
“If you love stories about family—spanning generations—with BIG secrets and unexpected twists and turns, you are going to LOVE this emotional mystery,” Bush Hager wrote in the caption.
She then continued by summarizing some of what the book, which releases officially on June 3, is about. “We begin in 1982 with Dawn, a young mom who unexpectedly falls for a woman named Hazel,” she details of the storyline from 1982. “Their connection shifts everything she thought she knew about love, and suddenly, life gets more complicated.”
“Theirs is the kind of connection that’s impossible to resist, and suddenly life is more complicated, and more joyful, than Dawn ever expected,” the official description continues. “But she has responsibilities and commitments. She has a daughter.”
Forty years later, in 2022, the novel follows Heron, “a devoted father who’s built his whole life around his daughter.” “But we quickly learn that he’s been holding onto a secret that threatens to rewrite her entire past,” Bush Hager teases.
Per the description, Heron gets unfortunate news from his doctor, but doesn’t have the guts to tell his daughter, Maggie. “Telling Maggie, his only child—the person around whom his life has revolved—seems impossible,” the synopsis reads. “Heron can’t tell her about his diagnosis, just as he can’t reveal all the other secrets he’s been keeping from her for so many years.”
Bush Hager then concluded by saying the book “is a heartbreaking and hopeful exploration of first love, second chances, and the beautiful, messy ways families hold together—or fall apart.”

In the comments, fans are already freaking out over the selection. “An unputdownable story. A treasure!” wrote one commenter. “Once again I lovvvvvved this book!!!” echoed fellow bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand.
The author herself, who’s also penned the 2021 book Small: On motherhoods, also commented. “Unbelievably exciting to see it really happening!” Lynch wrote in the comment section. “Really looking forward to the month ahead ❤️.”
