Over the years, Taylor Jenkins Reid has captivated millions of readers with her moving, page-turning books. Daisy Jones & The Six, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Carrie Soto Is Back are just a few of her best-selling and fan-loved novels. And there’s a new one coming soon!

On June 3, Jenkins Reid will release her latest novel, Atmosphere: A Love Story.

The book will follow astronomy lover Joan Goodwin as she’s selected to become one of the first women scientists to join NASA’s space shuttle program in the summer of 1980.

“I knew that I wanted to continue to write about women and male-dominated spaces, analyzing the rules for women and how they’re different for women than they are for men in those spaces is interesting,” Jenkins Reid told People. “But also, I’m so curious about the types of women that thrive in that environment. I see Daisy Jones and Karen in Daisy Jones & the Six as great examples of that.”

As a reminder, Daisy Jones & The Six was adapted into a hit TV series in 2023, while The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Carrie Soto Is Back and Malibu Rising are all currently in pre-production. Jenkins Reid’s other novel, One True Loves, has also been adapted into a movie starring Luke Bracey, Philippa Soo, and Simu Liu.

‘Atmosphere’ by Taylor Jenkins Reid

In the official description for Atmosphere, readers learn that the novel will be about much more than Joan beating the odds.

“Thoughtful and reserved, Joan is content with her life as a professor of physics and astronomy at Rice University and as aunt to her precocious niece, Frances,” the description reads. “That is, until she comes across an advertisement seeking the first women scientists to join NASA’s space shuttle program. Suddenly, Joan burns to be one of the few people to go to space.”

The blurb also introduces some of the other characters: Top Gun pilot Hank Redmond and scientist John Griffin, mission specialist Lydia Danes, warmhearted Donna Fitzgerald, and Vanessa Ford, the magnetic and mysterious aeronautical engineer.

“As the new astronauts become unlikely friends and prepare for their first flights, Joan finds a passion and a love she never imagined,” the description reads. “In this new light, Joan begins to question everything she thinks she knows about her place in the observable universe.”

“Then, in December of 1984, on mission STS-LR9, it all changes in an instant,” the description ends.
