Helen Hunt and boyfriend Jeffrey Nordling came back into each other’s lives in an unlikely way after previously dating in 1988.
The 61-year-old actress opened up about her relationship on the cover of Flow Space’s Brain Health Issue, revealing for the first time that their romance initially began decades ago.
“We dated in 1988!” she revealed in the June 4 issue. “I’ve never really talked about that. And I always thought he was lovely and sweet and talented and dreamy. We both had very different lives for decades, and then, in some crazy way, found each other again.”
It turns out that “crazy way” of finding Nordling, 63, again involved a gentle nudge from her daughter. The Twister actress recalled that her 21-year-old daughter Makenna Lei was the one who encouraged Hunt to date again after she split from her daughter’s father, Matthew Carnahan, in 2017.
“The sentence was, ‘You should date someone hot,'” Hunt recalled. “I mentioned [Nordling], and we had mutual friends, and we had breakfast.”
Hunt and Nordling first met while co-starring in the 1988 TV movie Shooter and began appearing in each other’s social media posts in 2022. They later debuted their relationship on the red carpet at the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 20th Anniversary Gala honoring Frank Gehry in 2023.
Hunt, who divorced to Hank Azaria after a year of marriage in 2000, was in a relationship with Carnahan from 2001 until 2017.
Nordling was previously married to actress Francia Dimase, and they share three daughters.
